Emerald is a kind of beryl stone and is uncommonly not celebrated for its clarity. Unlike other gemstones and with every emerald being so unique, a vibrant emerald rich in colour may be sought after more than a lacklustre stone with fewer inclusions. The dedicated 'emerald cut' was specialised with the intention of bringing out the best in emerald stones and is now used on all kinds of gems. This cut showcases the emerald's table with a flat rectangular shape and facets along the crown. Emeralds are only ever green in colour. Symbolic of nature, life and hope, the name originates from ‘smaragdus’ the ancient Greek word for green, a colour that evokes ideas of rich and lush landscapes.
