Peridot has been found on Mars, with NASA announcing the discovering in October 2003.
Peridot is the August birthstone, and Diamond is the birthstone for April. Peridot is a great gift to give for those celebrating a 16th anniversary, whereas Diamond is the traditional gemstone to give on a 10th and 60th anniversary.
Roman's used to call Peridot the "Evening Emerald", due to the believe that the gem would glow faintly in the dark.
